Job summary

NuStaff Recruitment in Newport is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to shape and develop a heavy manufacturing engineering function. You will lead mechanical and electrical disciplines, drive reliability and performance, and set maintenance strategies to reduce downtime.

You will bring at least 10 years in engineering, with a track record in steel or heavy industry, strong leadership, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• At least 10 years' engineering experience, including substantial engineering management experience.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, heavy industry or similar demanding manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of heavy machinery, industrial equipment and plant maintenance.
• Knowledge of OEE, TPM, preventative maintenance and reliability improvements.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Able to identify improvement opportunities and translate them into practical results.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to challenge existing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and motivate the engineering team across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Review and develop the engineering department's structure, processes and working practices.
• Improve plant reliability, equipment availability and overall manufacturing performance.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives including OEE and TPM.
• Develop preventative and planned maintenance strategies to reduce unplanned downtime.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering standards, efficiency and equipment performance.
• Work closely with production and other departments to resolve technical issues and improve operational effectiveness.
• Promote a strong culture of health and safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Support engineering projects, equipment upgrades and investment initiatives as required.
• Develop the skills and capabilities of the team to support long-term business needs.
