Legal & General (L&G) is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high‑performing team delivering secure, scalable software solutions. You will stay hands‑on while shaping technical direction and collaborating with product, architecture and business stakeholders.

You will mentor engineers, drive quality practices, and foster a culture of learning and inclusion. The role offers the chance to influence retirement and protection platforms used by millions of customers across the UK.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on Java engineering experience with Spring Boot microservices.
• Strong knowledge of domain-driven and event-driven design.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and coaching.
• Expertise in test-driven development and automated testing.
• Experience with CI/CD, version control, and software delivery pipelines.
• Knowledge of secure software development and observability practices.
• Ability to balance technical, commercial and delivery considerations with stakeholders.
• Commitment to inclusive, collaborative environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, secure and reliable software solutions.
• Prioritise, plan and oversee delivery activities to achieve predictable outcomes.
• Design and build scalable, maintainable software while remaining hands-on.
• Coach, mentor and support engineers with structured development plans.
• Embed a culture of quality, testing and security across day-to-day engineering practices.
• Drive continuous improvement through delivery metrics, operational insights and observability data.
• Manage operational readiness, incident response processes and technical debt.
• Collaborate with product, architecture and business stakeholders to remove blockers and deliver customer value.
