Job summary

First Bus in Sheffield invites applications for an Engineering Manager at Olive Grove Depot. Lead the engineering team, manage workshop operations, and ensure safe, efficient, compliant engineering delivery while driving continuous improvement and cost control.

The role requires strong leadership, industrial knowledge, and a proven track record in maintenance regulation compliance. You will oversee budgets, monitor performance, and collaborate with senior management in a fast-paced transport

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering management or supervision.
• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance legislation (VOSA, MOT, safety inspections).
• Demonstrated leadership and team development skills.
• Proficient with SAP and MS Office.
• Working knowledge of safe systems of work and risk assessments.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Flexible to meet operational needs; valid PCV/forklift license desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, and support a team of engineering professionals.
• Oversee depot and workshop operations.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and engineering policies.
• Monitor departmental budgets and costs.
• Drive performance to minimise downtime and lost mileage.

• Communicate with senior management and cross-functional teams.
• Develop and implement engineering processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage subcontracted engineering work and contractors.
• Promote a proactive safety culture.
