Job summary

IFX Payments in London is hiring to lead the Banking and FX tribe, owning payment processing, FX pricing and trading, the ledger, reconciliation, and client portal. You will supervise six to eight engineers, driving tribe delivery and OKRs while collaborating with product, design and stakeholders to convert client problems into shipped software.

This role is not fully hands-on, but you should be technically capable to review code, guide the team, and resolve tough decisions with a balance of

Qualifications

• Experience leading and managing engineers, including hiring, performance, and difficult conversations.
• Strong C#, Azure and SQL. Able to review designs and assess risks with credibility.
• Delivered in teams running business-critical services in production.
• Comfort with asynchronous, event-driven systems and their failure modes.
• Product-minded, able to articulate why a piece of work matters to a client.
• Ability to handle ambiguity and decide when to push a technical boundary.
• Experience building software with AI; not just interest.
• Background in regulated work with evidence-driven changes to money movement.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery and OKRs for the tribe, forecast and sequence work, flag delays early.
• Collaborate with product, design and stakeholders to turn client problems into shipped software.
• Apply agile practices that create real agility and cut ceremonies.
• Communicate with leadership and keep stakeholders informed early.
• Lead and grow a team of six to eight engineers, including one-on-ones and onboarding.
• Set high standards for mentoring, feedback, design/code reviews and growth.
• Demonstrate urgency and ownership by doing, aim for progress over perfection.
• Share technical direction with senior engineers and ensure decisions are documented.
• Maintain quality and testing standards; focus on building it right the first time.
• Improve security posture and incident response for production services.
• Define how the team uses AI, balance benefits with risks.
• Work with compliance and risk to ensure money-movement changes have evidence.
