Job summary

Global Payments Inc. is seeking a Director, FX Engineering to lead the FX technology strategy within the Money Movement Technology team in London.

You will own the platform vision for multi‑currency settlement and partner with business stakeholders to translate strategy into scalable, reliable engineering solutions. You will build and mentor high‑performing engineering teams, drive cloud adoption, IaC, automation, and observability, and ensure governance, production readiness, and cost

Qualifications

• Significant engineering leadership experience within financial services, payments, fintech, or FX environments.
• Strong understanding of large-scale distributed systems, cloud platforms, API-driven architecture, and enterprise technology delivery.
• Experience leading engineering teams responsible for mission-critical customer-facing platforms and services.
• Deep knowledge of software engineering, platform operations, release management, production support, and operational excellence practices.
• Strong commercial awareness balancing technical investment, platform scalability, business priorities, and operational costs.
• Experience working within Agile, DevOps, and modern software delivery environments.
• Exceptional stakeholder management with the ability to influence executive leaders, engineering teams, and business partners.
• Experience building and developing engineering talent, creating high-performing teams and leadership pipelines.
• Ability to define technology roadmaps and translate strategy into measurable engineering outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the engineering strategy, technology roadmap, and platform vision supporting FX platforms.
• Lead the design, development, modernization, and operation of highly scalable FX platforms that support global merchants.
• Build and inspire high-performing engineering teams, creating a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Drive the evolution of FX infrastructure to ensure resilience, security, performance, and compliance.
• Partner with Product, Commercial, Operations, Treasury, Risk, and Finance to translate business strategy into engineering roadmaps.
• Lead engineering delivery across cloud and on-premise environments with automation and observability.
• Establish governance, release management, production readiness, and engineering best practices.
• Evaluate build, buy, and partner opportunities to accelerate innovation for FX capabilities.
• Drive platform modernization initiatives using IaC and cloud-native tech.
• Own engineering metrics, platform health, capacity planning, and cost management.
• Collaborate across FX, Payments, Billing, Funding, and Reporting platforms for seamless integration.
• Represent FX Engineering in senior leadership forums and shape the long-term tech strategy.

What you'll own

• Define and deliver the engineering strategy, technology roadmap, and platform vision supporting Global Payments' FX, multi-currency, and settlement capabilities.
• Lead the design, development, modernization, and operation of highly scalable FX platforms that support some of the world's largest global ecommerce merchants and marketplaces.
• Build and inspire high-performing engineering teams, creating a culture of innovation, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Drive the evolution of FX infrastructure, ensuring platforms are resilient, secure, performant, compliant, and capable of supporting future business growth.
• Partner with Product, Commercial, Operations, Treasury, Risk, and Finance teams to translate business strategy into engineering solutions and technical roadmaps.
• Lead engineering delivery across cloud and on-premise environments, driving automation, observability, operational excellence, and platform reliability.
• Establish governance, release management, production readiness, and engineering best practices across the FX technology landscape.
• Evaluate build, buy, and partner opportunities to accelerate innovation and deliver best-in-class FX capabilities.
• Drive platform modernization initiatives, leveraging cloud-native technologies, infrastructure-as-code, automation, and DevOps practices to improve scalability and efficiency.
• Own engineering metrics, platform health, capacity planning, cost management, and service performance to ensure high-quality outcomes for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Build strong partnerships across the wider engineering organisation, ensuring seamless integration between FX, Payments, Billing, Funding, and Reporting platforms.
• Represent FX Engineering within senior leadership forums and contribute to the long-term technology strategy of Global Payments.

What you'll bring

It's a bonus if you have

• Experience within FX trading, treasury systems, multi-currency settlement, cross-border payments, or merchant acquiring.
• Experience managing large-scale public cloud environments and cloud migration programmes.
• Experience implementing infrastructure-as-code, automation frameworks, observability tools, and modern platform engineering practices.
• Knowledge of data platforms, analytics, machine learning, or real-time processing technologies.
• Experience working in SAFe or scaled Agile environments.
• Cloud certifications or experience with AWS and other enterprise cloud platforms.
