Job summary

Emmerson Kitney Engineering & Operations in Hull, East Yorkshire, is seeking an Engineering Manager with a strong design background to lead the Design and Technical Engineering team through full lifecycle from concept to delivery, coordinating with manufacturing and QA.

You will drive improvements, ensure compliance with ISO, PED, ASME, ATEX and API, mentor graduates and apprentices, and report to the General Manager and Director as part of a supportive leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading design and technical engineering teams.
  • Track record delivering full lifecycle engineering projects to customers.
  • Knowledge of valves or similar engineered products is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and leadership in cross-functional environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Design and Technical Engineering team and provide design data for manufacturing.
  • Oversee end-to-end project lifecycle from order to delivery against specs.
  • Respond to technical queries from stakeholders and customers.
  • Support production areas to improve efficiency and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, PED, ASME, ATEX and API standards.
  • Collaborate with senior management and report to GM/Director.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Managing the Design and Technical Engineering team, providing the product designs and technical data required by manufacturing operations.
  • Overseeing the full lifecycle of engineering projects, from order acceptance through to delivery, while meeting technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Responding to technical queries from internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Supporting production areas, including foundry, machining, assembly and testing, by troubleshooting issues and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Ensuring products comply with relevant industry standards and certifications, including ISO, PED, ASME, ATEX and API.
  • Contributing to research, development and innovation initiatives in collaboration with Valvitalia's corporate strategy and innovation teams.
  • Collaborating with senior management colleagues and providing regular updates to the General Manager and Director.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Strong leadership, people-management and technical capabilities.
  • Knowledge of or experience with valves or similar engineered products.
  • A collaborative and results-focused management style, with the ability to develop people and drive performance.
  • Proven experience managing complex workloads and delivering against customer requirements without compromising quality.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, suppliers and customers.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to analyse technical issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), safety and HSE principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD, Autodesk Inventor, CFD and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Experience within an engineering or make-to-order manufacturing environment.
