Job summary

Balfour Beatty is delivering the Old Oak Common station as part of the Major Projects team in London, a flagship project for HS2 with a multi-billion budget. This Engineering Manager - Above Ground Stations role leads assurance, governance and technical direction for station packages, coordinating with design consultants, construction teams and subcontractors.

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or demonstrable progression towards chartership.

  • Eligibility to work and live in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering assurance and governance activities across the AGS delivery scope.
  • Ensure construction activities are delivered in accordance with approved designs, engineering standards, HS2 requirements and statutory obligations.
  • Provide technical leadership for conventional station packages including structural steelwork, roofing, facades, glazing, doors, rail interfaces and temporary works.
  • Manage engineering risks, assumptions, constraints and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate engineering activities between design consultants, construction teams and subcontractors.
  • Lead technical resolution of site issues, RFIs, NCRs and design change proposals

About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager - Above Ground Stations to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.

HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
