Engineering and Building Technician – NHS

Venn Group have partnered with a large Sussex based NHS Trust to recruit an Engineering and Building Technician on a permanent basis. The successful candidate would be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of Mechanical, Electrical and Medical Plant & Equipment and Building faults. Including PPM - Planned maintenance and the repair of the Mechanical and Electrical plant, equipment & services.
Salary: Band 5 - £29,970 to £36,483 a year per annum
Location: Worthing - Sussex
Duration: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours a week – Monday – Friday
Key Duties:
• Supervise maintenance assistants, contractors, checks & evaluates work; provides practical training to staff, contractors
• Supervise maintenance assistants and contractors; inspect, assess, and provide hands-on training to staff and external workers.
• Perform maintenance and repairs across a wide range of mechanical, electrical, medical plant, and building systems.
• Act as deputy for Team Leaders when required.
• Responsible for Legionella management, medical gas pipeline systems, electrical safety, and ventilation.
• Liaise with approved contractors for urgent maintenance issues and breakdowns when necessary.
• Participate in the On-Call Rota to respond to emergency and urgent maintenance needs outside of regular working hours.
• Manage major incidents, including critical failures in electrical supply, medical gas systems, heating, and hot water services.
• Support the motivation, training, and development of the maintenance team and apprentices, ensuring efficient use of labour and materials to deliver a high-quality maintenance service for the Trust’s building assets and assist Trust Managers.
The successful candidate must have:
• 4- year apprenticeship City & Guilds or NVQ level 3
• Mechanical / plumbing training for Electricians or Electrical training for Mechanical
• A proven ability to plan and prioritise work, under pressure and respond to deadlines in line with SLAs & KPIs
• Post qualification experience as an Engineering Maintenance Craftsman / Electrician/ Mechanical Engineer
• Good communication, organisation and maintenance skills
