Mortgages are primarily provided via brokers, through our online and API channels. We are actively expanding our propositions in both Home and Landlord space as part of integration.

You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of the agreed roadmap that supports our Virgin Money Integration and Migration Strategy. You will work closely with Lead engineer and architecture team to provide thought leadership to our Engineering teams.

This role will drive a culture of continuous improvement, with a focus on building technical capability (including people) across all disciplines. Across CT, we have an important journey ahead of us to build and maintain our position in the market and respond to changing customer needs, guided by the strategic pillars of More Rewarding Relationship, Simply Brilliant Service and Focused, Fit and Fast. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team at a time of real change, where you will be at the heart of driving this agenda and able to make a real impact.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London, Bournemouth or Northampton offices. Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

You will be expected to take accountability for the end-to-end delivery lifecycle of the engineering function within Mortgages, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders whilst providing technology and architectural leadership, strategic direction and long-term vision for VMx integration.

As a technology lead, you will be actively involved in designing and solutioning, creating options papers and presenting to senior stakeholders - you will be liaising with engineering leads across the Society outside Mortgages and be part of the interlock planning sessions.

About you

  • Experience in data modernisation including cloud & AI adoption in Banking industry and good understanding of SQL and ETL tools like Databricks
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to create a narrative for CIOs and present independently with technical options and delivery choices
  • Different delivery methodologies and experience in detailed planning along with impact assessment
