What you’ll be doing

The Mortgage Policy & External Engagement team supports good customer outcomes through the design, development and implementation of effective mortgage policies. This spans both existing customer propositions and new strategic initiatives.

As an Assistant Product Manager, you will support the delivery of mortgage policy, process and journey changes, with a particular focus on the Virgin Money integration programme that will bring together the residential mortgage brands.

Working alongside product professionals and stakeholders from across the Society, you will help shape policy solutions by conducting research, analysing data and assessing the impact of proposed changes. You'll contribute to the development of evidence‑based recommendations that balance customer outcomes, commercial objectives, operational considerations and regulatory requirements.

You’ll play a key role in coordinating activity across multiple teams, preparing materials for governance and decision‑making forums, and supporting the successful delivery of change initiatives. Using data, insight and governance frameworks, you'll help ensure policy changes align with the Society's risk appetite, meet regulatory obligations and deliver good customer outcomes throughout the mortgage lifecycle.

This is a varied and fast‑paced role where priorities can change quickly. You'll need to be organised, adaptable and comfortable managing multiple activities while maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail.

About you

The minimum requirements for this role are:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the UK mortgage market, including mortgage products, policies, processes and customer journeys
  • Experience supporting policy, change or project delivery within a financial services environment
  • Extensive analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess impacts, analyse data, identify key insights and develop evidence‑based recommendations, reports and presentations
  • Understanding of mortgage regulation, including the practical application of regulatory requirements
  • Proven stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, coordinate delivery activities and drive progress towards shared objectives
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality outputs in a fast‑paced environment

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
