Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking an Engineer to join our Structures Team. You will play a key role in delivering public sector structural maintenance and improvement schemes, from feasibility through to construction, with a focus on highway structures and safety.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent) and an IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification, plus experience in design, analysis, inspection, maintenance, and NEC contract administration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent; IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• Experience in design, analysis, assessment, maintenance and strengthening of highway structures.
• Prepare contract documentation and supervise construction works for compliance with designs and safety.
• Inspect highway structures and prepare maintenance estimates.
• Write briefs, prepare contract documents and assess/award NEC contracts.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and Local Authority design guides; CDM regs.
• Excellent communication, presentation and report writing; analytical/creative thinking; tight timescales.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineer to join our Structures Team at Leicestershire County Council, one of the best performing councils in the country. Our team has a track record of delivering robust solutions from feasibility through to construction. The nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours and as you may need to work at different locations than your designated base, you will need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

• Hold a degree in a Civil Engineering subject or equivalent qualification plus demonstrable experience. A Health and Safety qualification e.g. IOSH or equivalent.
• Have experience in the design, analysis, assessment, maintenance and strengthening of highway structures to ensure that they maintain structural integrity in line with current standards.
• Be able to prepare contract documentation and supervise construction works to ensure compliance with designs and health & safety legislation.
• Experience in the inspection of highway structures, checking inspections prepared by others in accordance with current guidance, identifying, prioritising and preparing estimates for appropriate maintenance works.
• Writing briefs to commission works based on outcome specifications, and preparing contract documents, assessing, and awarding contracts. Experience working with NEC contracts.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and Local Authority design guides and other relevant technical guidance. Current legislation, policies, and procedures including CDM Regs.
• Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills. Strong analytical and creative thinking skills and ability to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
