Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking an Engineer to join the Structures Team at County Hall, Glenfield. The role focuses on delivering structural maintenance and improvement schemes with a track record of practical, value-focused solutions from feasibility to construction.

The successful candidate will require a Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent), with experience in highway structures and NEC contracts, plus a Health and Safety qualification.

Qualifications

• Hold a degree in a Civil Engineering subject or equivalent qualification plus demonstrable experience.
• A Health and Safety qualification e.g. IOSH or equivalent.
• Experience in design, analysis, maintenance and strengthening of highway structures to ensure structural integrity.
• Be able to prepare contract documentation and supervise construction works to ensure compliance with designs and health & safety legislation.
• Experience in the inspection of highway structures and preparing maintenance estimates.
• Experience in writing briefs to commission works based on outcome specifications and preparing contract documents; NEC contracts experience.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and Local Authority design guides; CDM regs.
• Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills; strong analytical and creative thinking; capable of meeting tight timescales.

Salary: £41,259 - £44,109 per annum (plus Market Premia @10% top of grade)

Working Hours:Full Time – 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

The nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours and as you may need to work at different locations than your designated base, you will need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

• Hold a degree in a Civil Engineering subject or equivalent qualification plus demonstrable experience. A Health and Safety qualification e.g. IOSH or equivalent.
• Have experience in the design, analysis, assessment, maintenance and strengthening of highway structures to ensure that they maintain structural integrity in line with current standards.
• Be able to prepare contract documentation and supervise construction works to ensure compliance with designs and health & safety legislation.
• Experience in the inspection of highway structures, checking inspections prepared by others in accordance with current guidance, identifying, prioritising and preparing estimates for appropriate maintenance works.
• Writing briefs to commission works based on outcome specifications, and preparing contract documents, assessing, and awarding contracts. Experience working with NEC contracts.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and Local Authority design guides and other relevant technical guidance. Current legislation, policies, and procedures including CDM Regs.
• Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills. Strong analytical and creative thinking skills and ability to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
