Job summary

Ashford Borough Council is looking for an Enforcement Officer to tackle environmental crime, anti-social behaviour, and public realm issues across the borough. You will provide a visible uniformed presence, gather evidence, prepare prosecution files, and work with partners to resolve community concerns.

You will patrol streets, estates and parks, enforce related legislation, attend court as needed, and contribute to joint enforcement operations. Hybrid working and a competitive package apply.

Responsibilities

• Investigate fly tipping, gather evidence and prepare prosecution files.
• Conduct patrols and support joint enforcement operations.

• Enforce dog control, stray dogs and dog fouling legislation.

Job description

Help keep Ashford safe, clean and welcoming This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in tackling environmental crime, anti-social behaviour and public realm issues across the borough. As an Enforcement Officer, you will provide a visible uniformed presence in our communities, working proactively to prevent and investigate environmental offences, waste crime, anti-social behaviour and other issues that impact residents' quality of life. You will work closely with colleagues, partner agencies, local businesses and residents to resolve concerns, build community confidence and help make Ashford a better place to live, work and visit. No two days are the same. One day you may be investigating reports of fly tipping, gathering evidence and preparing prosecution files, while the next you could be conducting patrols, supporting joint enforcement operations or helping residents affected by anti-social behaviour. You will be expected to gather evidence, produce witness statements and prepare prosecution files, along with:

• Undertaking interviews under caution and applying relevant PACE procedures.
• Progressing cases through legal action in partnership with Legal Services.
• Attending court and acting as a professional witness when required.
• Working closely with residents, businesses, Kent Police and partner organisations to tackle local issues.
• Conducting patrols across streets, estates, parks and public spaces throughout the borough.
• Enforcing legislation relating to dog control, stray dogs and dog fouling.
• Identifying environmental crime hotspots and supporting the deployment of enforcement initiatives and CCTV.
• It is essential that you are a confident communicator, professional in challenging situations and committed to protecting local communities, along with having:
