Job summary

Valda Energy Limited in Bicester seeks a Settlement Specialist to ensure accurate, timely settlement of energy market transactions and related financial processes. You will work with Commercial, Finance and Operations to capture, settle, reconcile and reflect data in financial systems.

You will investigate discrepancies, liaise with Elexon and market participants, and analyse large datasets to support month-end close and regulatory compliance. Strong Excel and data skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in settlement, billing, operations or a data-driven analytical role
• Strong reconciliation and data investigation skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret large datasets and resolve discrepancies
• Knowledge of UK electricity and/or gas settlement arrangements, with an understanding of Elexon processes and market performance obligations (Desirable)
• Experience working with industry agents, market participants or external partners, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships (Desirable)
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools, with experience developing reports, dashboards or management information

Responsibilities

• Working closely with Commercial, Finance, Operations and external market participants to ensure energy transactions are accurately captured, settled, reconciled and reflected in financial systems
• Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual settlement activities across relevant energy markets, ensuring accurate and timely processing
• Investigating and resolving settlement discrepancies, rejected transactions, exceptions and data quality issues, escalating material financial or operational risks where appropriate
• Liaising with Elexon, market operators, network companies, suppliers, generators, brokers, partners and other counterparties to manage settlement performance and resolve issues
• Maintaining a strong understanding of electricity and/or gas settlement arrangements, market rules, contractual obligations and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance
• Analysing large datasets, including energy volumes, meter readings, market charges and imbalance costs, using spreadsheets, databases and settlement systems to perform calculations and reconciliations
• Identifying opportunities to improve data quality, strengthen controls, automate manual processes and reduce errors, while supporting customer onboarding, system testing and the implementation of new settlement processes
• Developing and maintaining settlement reports, dashboards and accurate audit trails, supporting financial reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, audits, and the ongoing review of settlement procedures and controls
