Job summary

Leicester City Council is recruiting two Energy Project Officers to join the Leicester Energy Hub. These permanent, full-time roles (37 hours) will be based at the city centre hub, delivering energy efficiency guidance to residents and businesses.

You’ll work as part of a small team, developing and delivering energy projects, identifying funding, and supporting bids, with opportunities to engage at community events.

Qualifications

• Experience in energy efficiency or retrofit-related field.
• Experience organizing events and engaging confidently with the public.
• Some project management experience and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Good numeracy and literacy skills for preparing statistics and reports.

Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent Help power a greener future for Leicester. We're recruiting two full-time Energy Project Officers to join our new Leicester Energy Hub. A dedicated, city-centre advice service helping residents and businesses tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and live in warmer, healthier homes. Based full time at the Hub premises, you'll be the friendly, knowledgeable face of the service, providing drop-in and appointment-based advice on energy efficiency improvements and access to government funded schemes such as Warm Homes Local Grant and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. These are two full time, permanent roles working 37 hours per week, based on-site at the city centre-based Energy Hub, offering you the chance to build real, lasting relationships with the residents, businesses and communities you support while helping the city progress towards its Net Zero ambitions.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working as part of a small, dedicated team, you'll provide face-to-face, phone and outreach advice to residents and businesses on energy efficiency, renewable technologies and utility consumption, helping people understand their options and make confident decisions. You'll assist with the development and delivery of energy projects, including identifying funding opportunities and helping to prepare bids. You'll keep accurate records and databases, assess applications, and produce reports and statistics on progress and outcomes. You'll also represent the Hub and the wider Energy & Sustainability service at community events, seminars and outreach sessions, building the Hub's profile and reach across the city, and you may occasionally help guide the work of temporary staff or volunteers supporting Hub activities.

What You’ll Need

Experience of working in an energy efficiency or retrofit-related field, ideally including delivering energy-saving advice directly to the public or businesses. You'll need experience of organising events and dealing confidently with members of the public, along with some project management experience and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential for preparing statistics and reports, along with clear presentation, negotiation and communication skills. Knowledge of national carbon reduction and fuel poverty policies, low carbon energy technologies and domestic retrofit would be a strong advantage, as would any existing knowledge of current energy efficiency schemes or previous retrofit-advice training. As this is a hub-based, public-facing role, you'll need to be comfortable working full time from our Leicester premises and occasionally outside standard office hours to support community events and outreach.
