Reporting into the Plant Development Manager, we are searching for a team member to join us as an Energy and Sustainability Manager.

  • Do you have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, engineering, or manufacturing?
What you'll be doing:

As the Energy & Sustainability Manager, you will take a hands-on approach to achieving the plant’s energy and sustainability goals, ensuring compliance with ISO 50001, Knauf’s internal standards, and the business management system. You’ll stay up to date with the latest energy and sustainability policies and technologies and manage energy optimization and sustainability improvement projects.

Energy Management:

  • Identify savings opportunities and perform profitability calculations for energy-saving projects.
  • Continuously drive improvement and take a HANDS-ON approach to enhancing energy efficiency, reducing energy demand through both technical and PRACTICAL solutions, including process, plant, and system optimization.
  • Utilize renewable energy sources where possible.
  • Identify and access available funding and reduction potentials.
  • Lead HANDS-ON awareness-raising activities (training, demonstrations) for all staff and the wider business.
  • Take responsibility for energy compliance at the site, leading ISO 50001 audits and UK-ETS verification.
  • Educate staff on energy management best practices through HANDS-ON training and activities.

Energy Monitoring & Cost Planning:

  • Monitor and record operational energy consumption and costs (e.g., natural gas, electricity, heat, compressed air, water, welding gas).
  • Prepare consumption data for budget compilation and cost planning.
  • Regularly perform HANDS-ON checks of the plausibility of consumption data via the monitoring system (including non-production periods).
  • Identify optimization potential through the energy monitoring system in the plant.
  • Perform energy and utility cost planning.

Energy Reduction & Benchmarking

  • Benchmark new/existing energy efficiency measures at other Knauf plants or suppliers, and assess innovative technologies/processes that sustainably reduce energy demand.
  • Stay in contact with Knauf’s Energy Champions and the Regional Global Energy Lead.

Sustainability Management:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for sustainability-related topics at the site.
  • Develop and implement strategies and concepts to enhance sustainability at the site.
  • Implement Knauf’s strategies to reduce GHG emissions and achieve Carbon Neutrality.
  • Lead the development and implementation of life cycle assessments in the plant.
  • Conduct practical awareness-raising activities (training, demonstrations) for staff.
  • Educate staff on sustainability management.
  • Analyze and collect data for sustainability key indicators for Knauf’s sustainability report and dashboards.

  • A Degree in either Chemistry, Operations, Engineering.
  • A broad understanding of ISO 50001 standards.
  • Proven experience of working within an Operational/Manufacturing environment.
