Job description

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council are looking to recruit an Energy and Carbon Officer to join our team based in Ipswich, Suffolk. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £36,124 - £42,708 per annum (pro rata for part-time).

Full-time, part-time, and job share opportunities will be considered.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an Energy and Carbon Officer to join our Climate Change and Nature Recovery Team. To succeed, you will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.

About The Role

Reporting to the Climate Change Manager, you will support the Climate Change priorities of the Councils, manage and monitor the councils' energy usage across its estate, and support various energy and carbon projects.

Responsibilities Will Include
  • Coordination of energy management across the corporate estate, monitoring and analyzing energy usage in council-owned buildings and facilities, working alongside Estates teams.
  • Energy management and decarbonisation planning for council estate and operations, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and renewable energy integration.
  • Development and implementation of energy-saving initiatives and projects, including innovative approaches and community energy initiatives.
  • Collection, analysis, and reporting on energy and emissions, monitoring progress, and capturing impacts.
  • Policy development and advice, contributing to council policies, and providing guidance on energy-related planning applications and activities.
  • Supporting the delivery of the councils' 2030 Net Zero target, and related strategies for Climate and Nature Recovery.
  • Contributing to broader Net Zero goals.
  • Promoting behavior change initiatives to encourage energy efficiency among staff and residents.
About You

We seek an experienced climate professional passionate about tackling climate change and delivering tangible impact. Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Energy Management, or Engineering, and be a member of IEMA or EI. You should have experience in project management, attention to detail, and strong data management skills. A collaborative mindset and ability to work across diverse teams are essential.
