Wye Valley NHS Trust in Hereford is seeking an Associate Specialist in Endoscopy to deliver high‑quality endoscopy across two sites, part of a JAG‑accredited service for a population of 235,000. The role supports training and supervision within a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will undertake five independent endoscopy lists weekly, contribute to training programmes, supervision, and service expansion with continued professional development and adherence to national standards.

Qualifications

• Primary Medical Qualification. Full GMC recognised medical degree.
• GMC Registration — Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
• Postgraduate Training. Evidence of completion of core medical training or equivalent.
• Endoscopy Accreditation. JAG compliant certification in upper and lower GI endoscopy.
• Higher Qualifications. MRCP, MS, MD, PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Teaching Qualification. PGCert in Medical Education or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Independent Endoscopy Lists. Undertake a minimum of five independent endoscopy lists per week, delivering high‑quality diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy, in line with JAG standards and Trust protocols.
• Training in additional procedures. Develop competencies in Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE), participating in supervised training lists and competency‑based progression.
• Clinical Supervision. Provide day‑to‑day clinical supervision, guidance and support to Clinical Endoscopists, contributing to skills development, quality assurance and safe practice.
• JETS Training Programme. Actively participate in the JETS training environment, supporting trainees, contributing to training lists, and promoting a positive learning culture.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration. Work closely with medical, surgical, nursing, decontamination and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient pathways and high‑quality service delivery.
• Quality and Governance. Contribute to clinical audit, service improvement, incident review and adherence to JAG standards, supporting the department’s commitment to continuous improvement.
• Patient‑Centred Care. Provide compassionate, respectful and informed care, ensuring patients are supported throughout their procedure and involved in shared decision‑making.
• Professional Development. Maintain and develop clinical skills through CPD, appraisal, and participation in departmental teaching, ensuring practice remains aligned with national standards and emerging evidence.
