Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust is seeking 1 Decontamination Technician, Band 2, for the Endoscopy Decontamination Service at St James’s Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. The role is 37.5 hours per week, with flexible bank holiday rotation across sites.

You will join a 16-strong team, uphold infection prevention and device traceability, and work in a fast-paced environment that values accuracy and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Excellent attention to detail.
• Works effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and are confident escalating concerns.
• Flexible and willing to work across both St James’s University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.
• Understand the importance of infection prevention, patient safety and medical-device traceability.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble endoscopes and perform manual cleaning per local and national policies.
• Operate the equipment necessary for the decontamination of endoscopic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, SOPs and Trust Policy.
• Decontaminate all equipment after each procedure.
• Prioritise and process endoscopes to facilitate the smooth running of clinical sessions.
• Handle potentially hazardous chemicals daily according to COSHH guidelines and Trust policies.
• Maintain accurate records of all chemicals used within the decontamination process.
• Ensure safe handling of equipment in line with infection control procedures.
• Wear appropriate protective equipment as per department guidelines.
• Maintain traceability of all equipment using paper and computerised tools.
• Follow all relevant policies and procedures for safe decontamination and traceability.
