Job summary

Essex County Council, through its Adult Community Learning, is seeking a dedicated Community Trainer to deliver inclusive learning across Essex, helping adults build confidence and employability with programmes in English, maths, digital skills and wellbeing.

You’ll adapt teaching to diverse needs, assess progress, and work with local partners to engage residents in accessible learning opportunities that support progression into further study or work.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be working towards a teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS or equivalent).
• Experience delivering learning, training, coaching or support to adults.
• Strong understanding of inclusive and learner-centred teaching practice.
• Ability to build effective relationships with learners and community partners.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess high-quality community learning sessions tailored to learner needs and community priorities.
• Deliver a range of entry-level and community learning programmes, including English, maths, digital skills, employability and wellbeing courses.
• Embed English, maths and digital skills within learning programmes where appropriate.
• Support learners to develop confidence, wellbeing and progression through creative and flexible learning approaches.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners, including those with additional support needs.
• Use assessment and learner reviews to monitor progress and celebrate learner achievement.
• Work collaboratively with community partners to engage new learners and support participation in learning opportunities.
• Attend community events and outreach activities to promote ACL courses and engage with local residents.
• Promote safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, equality, diversity and inclusion in all delivery environments.
• Collaborate with the Community Engagement Officer and Sector Lead to support learner recruitment, engagement and progression.
• Contribute to curriculum planning, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
• Participate in continuous professional development and reflective practice to maintain effective and current teaching skills.
