Job Description:

At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. To get there, we need exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people. The Employee Relations Manager position requires an individual who has significant employee relations experience, deep subject matter expertise, and strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. These competencies will enable the individual to work both independently to successfully manage a broad spectrum of ER issues and with employees and partners across Amazon’s wide geographic and cultural scope.

The central objectives of the Employee Relations Manager role in the UK & IE Field Employee Relations team are:

  • Ensure our organization’s treatment of every employee is fair, respectful, and consistent with our core business values, policies, and objectives as we strive to be Earth’s Best Employer.
  • Support that objective through proactive and reactive responsibilities.
  • Partner with senior managers and People eXperiance & Technology (PXT – HR in other companies) teams to create and sustain positive employee relations programs and best practices.
  • Experience facilitating employee listening sessions/focus groups and designing and delivering training programs.
  • Experience working with large amounts of data to identify root causes, recognize patterns, and develop solutions for complex problems, including developing effective executive messaging, reports, and presentations.
  • Work proactively to enhance the employee experience by addressing concerns early, de-escalating, and resolving workplace issues before they escalate.
  • Manage projects aimed at improving employee relations and engagement.
  • Handle critical employee relations issues that are sensitive and time-critical.
  • Balance time between proactive initiatives and urgent responses.

The position reports to the Head of Employee Experience and Relations UK and Ireland, within the Employee Experience and Relations team at Amazon. It is a full-time role requiring some travel, up to 30% annually, mainly within the UK and Ireland, occasionally in Europe. The base location is flexible in the UK.

Key job responsibilities
  • Conduct and oversee employee relations and vulnerability assessment programs.
  • Analyze, diagnose, design, and revise people programs, policies, and practices to sustain positive employee relations.
  • Define and develop arrangements for collective consultation and communication, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and Amazon ER policies.
  • Act with a sense of urgency, a bias for action, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Review employment policies for alignment with Amazon’s objectives and legal compliance.
  • Support significant ER projects and participate in national and international initiatives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in employee relations, HR functions, or labor/employment law.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced or law degree a plus.
  • Understanding of UK employment and labor laws.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills for collaboration across management levels.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to navigate complex international organizational structures.
