Are you looking for a new challenge? Would you like to play a key role in improving patients’ care and treatment? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Ward-Based Pharmacy Assistant to join our team.

In this role, you will support the Acute Medicine Admissions Wards, Accident & Emergency Department, Urgent Care Centre, and nursing teams by ensuring the safe storage and timely availability of medicines across wards, clinics, and associated areas. You will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred medicines management and dispensary service throughout the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivering an effective ward-based service, which includes medicines management, stock control and rotation, waste management, and the organisation and checking of patients’ own medication.
  • Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team at ward level to ensure safe and effective use of medicines.
  • Assisting in the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred service through the issuing of stock, dispensing of medication (including controlled drugs), and involvement in clinical trials.
  • Supporting and educating nursing staff on medicines management best practices and initiatives.

As part of your development, you will be enrolled on the Level 2 Dispensing Assistant Course and the HEE (LaSE) Medicines Optimisation Programme – POD (Patient’s Own Drug) Checking Module.

Education/ Qualifications
  • General Secondary Education including literacy to level 2 (equivalent to A-C or grade 4 GCSE) and numeracy to level 1(equivalent to D-E grade GCSE)
  • Pharmacy Service Skills NVQ Level 2 (QCF) or equivalent
Experience
  • Experience of working with computers
  • Experience of working in a hospital or customer orientated environment
  • Experience of working in a pharmacy environment
Skills
  • Good ability to use computer systems including excel and word
  • Demonstrated good written English communication skills
