Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and organised individual to join our Emergency Department (ED) team as a Receptionist. As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment during what can be a stressful time for many.

The role will be required to provide efficient and effective administrative/typist duties to Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) and wider staff.The post requires flexibility and the ability to provide a wide range of administrative and typist duties as the services develop.

Main duties of the job

Deal with day-to-day correspondence, initiating appropriate responses to provide patients, staff and other parties with required information in a friendly and professional manner.Receive telephone calls, accepting messages on behalf of members of the specialty team, taking appropriate action where necessary.Liaise with appropriate personnel in the team to gather and co-ordinate patient information so this is accessible in a timely manner.Process urgent referrals and arrange appropriate outpatient appointments.Participate in team and Trust meetings as requested.

Qualifications
  • *Good standard of general education
  • *NVQ 2 or equivalent experience

  • *Good organisational and communication skills
  • *Ability to manage multiple tasks within defined timescales
  • *Proven experience in a receptionist role, dealing with non-routine procedures and practices
  • *Competent dealing with the general public
  • *Experience of self-development or training in administration and/or office practices
  • *Knowledge of key NHS terminology
  • *Previous knowledge of working a Customer Service environment
  • *Previous knowledge of working in the NHS
  • *Previous experience of working in a Hospital environment
