Job summary

Moderna seeks a seasoned Trade Compliance leader to shape and execute regional strategies across EMEA. You will drive global alignment, manage operations, and lead digital tool adoption to optimize customs, valuation, origin, and recordkeeping.

The role requires deep EU customs expertise and strong cross‑functional influence across Legal, Supply Chain, and Finance. You will collaborate with authorities, brokers, and internal teams to ensure compliant, efficient import/export processes and foster

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 10 years of work experience, with at least 6 in compliance, legal, auditing, or investigations in life sciences.
• Strong expertise in operational trade execution and project management in complex international environments.
• Solid knowledge of EU Union Customs Code and local customs laws across EMEA, incl. import/export, dual-use, origin, and FTAs.
• Experience managing customs brokers, freight forwarders and 3PLs, plus regulatory interactions across jurisdictions.
• Experience implementing digital trade compliance tools (e.g., SAP GTS, MIC, Descartes or similar).
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with ability to influence across geographies.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Global and Regional Trade leadership to enhance the Global Trade & Operations Program for the EMEA region.
• Shape and lead regional trade compliance strategies aligned with global objectives.
• Serve as regional SME on customs and international trade regulations for EMEA.
• Support day-to-day trade activities across EMEA including import/export operations and documentation.
• Lead design and improvement of trade compliance programs covering classification, valuation, licensing, origin, and recordkeeping.
• Champion digital transformation in trade compliance technologies and automation platforms.
• Monitor regulatory changes in the EMEA region and assess business impact.
• Collaborate with Legal, Supply Chain, Finance, Tax, Logistics to embed compliance in processes.
• Identify and lead trade optimization initiatives including duty relief and special procedures.
• Lead interactions with customs authorities, audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries.
• Deliver guidance, training, and knowledge sharing across the regional network.
• Define and monitor trade compliance metrics and broker performance for excellence.
