Role Overview
As a Helicopter Engine Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for conducting induction inspections, evaluation, maintenance, repair, assembly, and release activities on Safran helicopter engines. You'll work both at our Fareham facility and, if required, at customer premises—all in strict accordance with approved maintenance data, company procedures, aviation regulations, and our commitment to uncompromising quality.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Induction & Evaluation
- Perform comprehensive incoming engine inspections: check engine identity, serial numbers, configuration, and review logbooks and maintenance history
- Assess engine condition; review modification status, repair history, service bulletins (SB) and Airworthiness Directives (AD)
- Verify Time Since Overhaul (TSO), Cycles Since Overhaul (CSO), Time Since New (TSN), Cycles Since New (CSN), and the status of Life Limited Parts (LLP)
- Identify and record external damage, corrosion, leaks, and missing components; assess shipping condition and preservation status
- Produce thorough pre-induction reports and generate maintenance work scope recommendations based on customer requirements and inspection findings
Level 1 Maintenance
- Execute approved Level 1 maintenance, including visual and borescope inspections, external cleaning, filter and chip detector checks, leak and functional inspections, troubleshooting, LRU/minor component replacement, oil system servicing, and foreign object damage (FOD) checks
- Complete accurate documentation, preservation, and engine preparation for storage
- Recommend further repair requirements based on evaluation findings
Level 2 Maintenance
- Perform intermediate maintenance such as engine strip activities, module/accessory replacement, defect identification, measurement and inspection of components, compliance with approved repairs, and detailed reporting of maintenance findings
Level 3 Maintenance
- Conduct major maintenance: complete engine disassembly, evaluation of repairable components, detailed module inspections, serviceability assessments, and support for engine reassembly and module overhaul
Documentation & SAP
- Maintain full, accurate records including pre-induction and inspection reports, work scope updates, non-conformance reports, engine status reports, material and component traceability, certificate of maintenance, and release documentation in line with regulatory and company standards
- Enter all relevant data into SAP, including maintenance progress, findings, work orders, labour hours, and parts fitted or removed
Release
- Verify and confirm the completion and configuration control for all maintenance tasks; ensure all inspections and documentation are complete for engine shipment or testing
Performance Expectations: Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised Aerospace Engineering qualification or equivalent
- Comprehensive knowledge of aviation maintenance regulations
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
- Good computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate digital records
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Desirable
- Type training on Safran helicopter engines
- Previous engine maintenance/overhaul and Part-145 MRO experience
- Experience using SAP
- Understanding of Engine Maintenance Manuals (EMM), Maintenance Technical Instructions (MTI), Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPC), Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM), Service Bulletins, and Airworthiness Directives
Development & Competency
- Technicians will follow a competency progression route, developing from induction through to independent Level 1–3 maintenance across all supported Safran engine types, always adhering to quality, safety, and regulatory systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply all relevant technical data, control tools, manage FOD prevention, and support safety management principles
