Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recruiting an Embryology Practitioner for the Assisted Conception Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will work with clinical embryologists, nursing and medical staff to deliver high-quality fertility treatments and laboratory services.

The role offers development opportunities within a large NHS organisation, with a routine 5 days over 7 pattern and a permanent, full-time contract.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Biological Science required.
• Experience working in an IVF laboratory environment is essential.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and data handling.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work accurately with high attention to detail in a regulated setting.
• Confidentiality and sensitive patient support approach.
• Knowledge of healthcare IT and databases is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process patient samples with accurate identification and regulatory compliance.
• Undertake witnessing procedures in embryology and cryopreservation laboratories.
• Input and maintain embryology data in specialist laboratory databases and reporting systems.
• Support lab procedures including oocyte collection, semen analysis and sperm preparation under supervision.
• Assist with maintenance, audits and monitoring of cryopreserved gametes and embryos.
• Support quality control activities, audits and SOP compliance.
• Respond to enquiries from patients and colleagues professionally and confidentially.
