Job summary

CBSbutler Ltd. is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for a long-term, SC-cleared contract based in Portsmouth with hybrid working. The role focuses on embedded development using C/C++ on real-time platforms and Linux.

The team delivers high‑end wireless solutions for key customers and operates within an Agile environment. Candidates should be experienced with embedded Linux, Buildroot/Yocto, U-Boot, and device trees, and be able to advance prototypes to deployment.

Responsibilities

• Prototype wireless solutions using C/C++ on embedded platforms.
• Develop embedded software/firmware prototypes in an agile environment.
• Develop software in a real-time embedded Linux environment using C/C++.
• Configure embedded Linux systems with Buildroot and Yocto.
• Work with U-Boot, kernel configs and device trees.
• Build and deploy embedded Linux systems in offline environments.

Embedded Software Engineer

Role Overview

The role of Embedded Software Engineer is required due to increased demand for the work of our Advanced Developments Group - a small team of highly innovative, enthusiastic engineers providing cutting edge technology solutions to our key customers.

Responsibilities

• Use your skills and knowledge to prototype innovative wireless solutions
• You will be primarily developing using C/C++ on embedded platforms
• Development of embedded software/firmware prototypes in an agile environment
• Further development of proven prototypes to a deployment standard
• Development of software in a real-time embedded environment using Linux. (e.g. Microblaze or RISC-V using C/C++)
• Experience of working with and configuring embedded Linux systems with tools such as Buildroot and Yocto
• Experience of working with Uboot, Kernel config and device trees
• Building and deploying embedded Linux systems in an offline environment
