Platform Recruitment is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in Belper, Derbyshire, to join a defence-focused technology business delivering secure communications solutions. You will design, develop and test embedded software and firmware in C/C++ across bare-metal and RTOS platforms, interfacing with hardware and drivers to ensure high performance and reliability in sensitive government applications.

The role offers hands‑on hardware interaction, rigorous testing and adherence to coding

Qualifications

• A degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related STEM.
• Strong experience in embedded C; C++ is beneficial.
• Experience developing firmware for microcontrollers or embedded processors.
• Knowledge of bare-metal programming and RTOS.
• Experience debugging, testing and integrating embedded software with hardware.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining embedded software and firmware using C and C++.
• Developing low-level software for microcontrollers, processors and embedded hardware platforms.
• Working across bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Developing and integrating hardware interfaces, peripheral drivers and communication protocols.
• Debugging and resolving software and hardware integration issues.
• Writing and executing unit tests, integration tests and software verification activities.
• Applying structured coding standards and software development best practices.
• Participating in technical design reviews, code reviews and collaborative engineering activities.
