Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop complex, safety‑critical embedded software for defence and regulated environments. The role is hands‑on and on‑site within a fast‑moving programme, requiring collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams to meet stringent functional and safety requirements.

Location is the Central belt of Scotland with 3–4 days on‑site weekly. 5+ years of experience is typical; SC clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
• Experience in embedded or safety‑critical development environments.
• Familiarity with safety‑critical standards (DO‑178C, MISRA C/C++) and agile practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C++ software for safety‑critical systems.
• Apply structured and model‑based design to enable scalable software architectures.
• Collaborate with systems and hardware engineers to integrate software on target platforms.
• Support system integration, verification, and lab testing in line with safety and coding standards.
• Contribute to delivery within an Agile development framework.
