AddSecure, a leading European secure IoT provider, is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Developer contractor. The role focuses on building robust protocol handlers, embedded Linux software in C, and modularizing legacy C++ code, with testing via Python and code reviews.

Based near Reading, Theale, UK, you will contribute in an international team, collaborating with Nordic colleagues while delivering secure, reliable alarm communication solutions for a variety of clients.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience developing embedded Linux software.
• Strong C and some C++ knowledge for reading and minor changes.
• Production experience with protocol handling over RS485/Ethernet.
• Experience in writing automated tests with Python.
• Familiarity with IP networking (DHCP, DNS, routing) and security basics.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development tools and Agile practices.

Responsabilités

• Design and develop new protocol handlers for alarm panels using C over RS485 or Ethernet.
• Add local web UI elements and JSON configuration support.
• Refactor and rewrite existing C++ software into modular C.
• Maintain code quality with unit tests, Python system tests, and code reviews.

Are you an experienced Embedded Linux Software Developer who enjoys working close to the technology, solving complex challenges and building reliable solutions? At AddSecure, you'll have the opportunity to develop software that supports critical alarm communication, working with embedded Linux, C and communication protocols in an international development environment.

We are seeking a Contractor specializing in embedded Linux systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise as a software developer, with a strong focus on C and protocol conversion. The development team is centered in Theale, near Reading, UK with colleagues in the Nordic region.

About The Job

You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our software solutions, ensuring they meet high-quality standards and fulfill business requirements. Initial responsibilities include:

• Design and develop new robust protocol handlers for alarm panels using C. These protocols are typically over RS485 or Ethernet.
• Add local web page UI elements and JSON configuration.
• Redesign and rewrite existing C++ software in C using small modular processes.
• Maintain code quality via unit tests, system tests in Python and code reviews.

About You

You are a strong software developer who we can depend on to develop and maintain solutions that meet our customers’ requirements. Additionally, you will have:

• Minimum 3 years experience as a software developer for embedded Linux products.
• Very proficient with git (clean commits, fixup with review feedback) and Agile development methodologies.
• Strong commercial experience developing production embedded Linux software in C.
• Ability to read, understand and make minor changes in C++ codebase.
• Reasonable Python skills for writing automated tests.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools, or willing to adopt them where they can improve development productivity and quality.
• Good knowledge of IP technologies such as DHCP, DNS, routing, etc.
• Awareness of different character encodings and conversion.
• If needed, can investigate problems on low-level interfaces such as RS232, RS485 and use Wireshark, etc.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Good understanding of software security principles and best practices.

Other Desirable Experience Includes BACnet, MQTT And JSON.
