Job summary
Wenham Carter is seeking an Embedded Firmware / Software Engineer to join its R&D team in Scotland. You will develop embedded software for high-end surveying and inspection products, working on camera imaging, laser scanning, sensing, and in-house electronics.
This hands-on role requires practical problem solving and the ability to contribute as an individual contributor in a niche, technically advanced environment.
Qualifications
- Experience in embedded firmware and/or software engineering.
- Strong exposure to Yocto / OpenEmbedded or similar embedded Linux build systems.
- Experience working with embedded electronic devices or systems.
- Hands-on mindset and willingness to work closely with a small engineering team.
- Ability to operate as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support embedded firmware/software for electronic products in an R&D environment.
- Work with embedded Linux build environments, particularly Yocto / OpenEmbedded.
- Support product development across imaging, sensing, and embedded processor-based platforms.
- Collaborate with electronics, firmware, and software colleagues across the UK, Portugal, and the US.
- Contribute to the development of new product variants and next-generation systems.
- Help bring robust commercial products through development into production-ready form.
