Job summary

Avetix, a Cambridge-based scaling consultancy, is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their growing team. You'll work across sensing, robotics, communications and IoT projects in industrial, government and medical sectors.

You’ll perform ARM-based board bring-up, develop Linux images with Yocto, and engage in real-time C/C++ development, with collaboration across hardware teams. A versatile consultancy role with diverse challenges awaits.

Qualifications

• Strong embedded Linux fundamentals, comfortable with device trees and kernel/user space.
• Yocto experience or willingness to learn.
• Real-Time C/C++ programming experience.
• Python or C#/.NET for tooling or test automation.
• Motivation to work in a consultancy environment with varied projects.

Responsibilities

• Embedded Linux development on Arm-based SoCs, including device trees and kernel/user space work.
• Build and maintain custom Linux images using Yocto.
• Bare metal and RTOS development across multiple silicon vendors.
• Support system bring up, board integration, debugging and performance optimisation.
• Collaborate with FPGA and electronics teams and contribute from early engagement to delivery.

Embedded Linux Software Engineer | Cambridge | Scaling Consultancy l £65,000

We're working with a leading engineering consultancy based in Cambridge, and we're on the hunt for an Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their growing team.

This isn't a one product, one roadmap kind of role. You'll be working across sensing, robotics, communications and IoT projects, spanning industrial, Govt and medical sectors.

One month you could be doing board bring up on an Arm based SoC, the next working embedded Linux for a medtech device. Genuine variety, not just a line in a job spec.

What you'll be doing:

• Embedded Linux development on Arm based SoCs, including device trees and user space/kernel space work
• Building and maintaining custom Linux images using Yocto
• Bare metal and RTOS development across multiple silicon vendors
• Supporting system bring up, board integration, debugging and performance optimisation
• Working closely with FPGA and electronics teams, so real exposure to the hardware side too
• Contributing to projects from early customer engagement right through to delivery
