Job summary

Sportsmith in Bath is seeking a dedicated Physical Performance professional to lead and coordinate development pathways within the Bath Rugby academy and its Beechen Cliff School partnership.

You will profile players, plan and program individualized development, monitor training loads, oversee rehabilitation with medical staff, and educate on recovery and lifestyle to optimise performance and durability.

Responsibilities

• Profiling: regularly assess and track players’ physical preparedness using aligned processes.
• Planning: organise and sequence training to support long-term physical development.
• Programming: prescribe progressive, individualised development programmes to improve physical qualities and address gaps.
• Coaching: direct attention to movement quality and challenge physical ceiling during gym and field sessions.
• Monitoring: track training load and optimise player development and durability.
• Rehabbing: support rehabilitation and return to play with academy medical staff.
• Educating: contribute to player education on physical preparation, recovery and lifestyle.
• Contribute to case conferences and IDPs with clear individual physical development priorities.
• Ensure RFU standardised athletic assessments compliance and maintain accurate player data.
• Identify physical strengths, development gaps and rate limiters for emerging players.
• Lead Physical Performance delivery within the Bath Rugby and Beechen Cliff School partnership.
• Collaborate with Beechen Cliff staff to ensure alignment and continuity of players’ physical development.
• Support performance delivery across academy satellite centres and partner environments as required.
• Maintain effective communication with schools, clubs and International programmes to promote training alignment.
