Job description

We're on a mission to revolutionise uncrewed flight. At Malloy Aeronautics, we develop advanced heavy-lift UAVs for both defence and commercial applications.

What sets us apart is our in-house approach. From design and engineering to manufacturing and testing, the majority of our work happens under one roof in Berkshire, allowing us to innovate quickly, maintain exceptional quality, and bring ideas to life faster.

For our teams, that means hands‑on involvement, real ownership, and the opportunity to help shape the future of uncrewed aviation.

Role Summary

We're looking for someone with experience designing, developing and integrating electronic systems, ideally within UAV, aerospace or another safety‑critical environment. You'll have knowledge of PCB schematic and layout design, hardware assembly and testing, power distribution, flight control interfaces and sensor integration.

You should be confident troubleshooting technical issues, selecting suitable components and contributing to decisions around power budgeting and EMI/EMC compliance. You'll also work closely with software, mechanical and flight test teams, so strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. Experience providing technical support to customers and using feedback to improve future electronic and aircraft designs would be beneficial.

Ability to hold Security Clearance - 5 years residence in the UK

What you'll be doing (but not limited to):
  • Design and develop electronic systems for UAVs, including power distribution, flight control interfaces, and sensor integration
  • Create and review schematics and PCB layouts using design tools (e.g. Altium, KiCad)
  • Assemble, test, and debug hardware to validate functionality and reliability
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and flight test teams to ensure system integration and performance
  • Support flight testing and troubleshooting
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and wiring diagrams
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of components, ensuring suitability for aerospace applications
  • Contribute to system‑level design decisions, such as power budgeting, signal routing, and EMI/EMC compliance
  • Investigate and resolve field or production issues, proposing improvements for future revisions
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and recommend innovations to improve system performance and reliability
  • Support other engineers with integration of new subsystems and components
  • Contribute suggestions for improvements on future circuits designs and aircraft systems (motherboard reorganisation for limiting interference)
Essential Skills and Experiences:
  • 2 to 5 years of industry experience in a similar technical role
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuit design (analog and digital)
  • Quickly understand other engineers designs
  • Quick learner - fast development area (e.g. components to microprocessors)
  • PCB manufacture knowledge
  • Familiarity with power electronics, motor control, and battery management systems
  • Familiarity of radio frequency (RF) systems and communication protocols
  • Good working knowledge of coding languages - C/C++, Python etc
  • Familiarity with PCB design and layout software (e.g. Altium, KiCad, Visio)
  • Familiarity of embedded systems & microcontrollers
  • Understanding of aerospace or UAV standards, regulations, and EMC considerations
  • Knowledge of autopilot systems (e.g. Ardupilot, QGC)
Desired Skills and Experiences
  • Ability to design, prototype, and test custom PCBs
  • Proficient in debugging and fault‑finding on electronics and systems
  • Experience in soldering, rework, and hardware bring‑up
  • Competent in using oscilloscopes, mustimeters, logic analysers, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, including software and mechanical teams
  • Clear technical documentation and communication skills
  • Being able to work from a product specification to produce an efficient working system
  • IPC Certification/courses (PCB related - desired)
