Job description

ENVEA is one of the world's leading companies in the field of environmental and industrial instrumentation, analysis and measurement. Since it was founded in 1978, ENVEA has designed, manufactured and marketed equipment for the continuous measurement of ambient air, emissions and industrial processes, as well as data processing software. A true flagship of French Industry and a pioneer in technology, throughout it history ENVEA has placed environmental protection and sustainable innovation at the heart of the development of its measuring instruments, its startegy and its founding valuesR&D Electronics Design EngineerLocation: Swavesey, CambridgeDepartment: Research & DevelopmentAs an R&D Electronics Design Engineer you will be a member of an R&D team who develop sophisticated sensors to monitor environmental emissions and to optimise industrial processes. Our centre of expertise is focussed on the measurement of dust at very low concentrations (mg/m3), the mass flow of solids at high concentrations (tons/hour) and flow of exhaust gases, all in harsh industrial environments. This is achieved by using a range of technologies such as laser scattering, electrodynamic, capacitance, microwave and ultrasonic.About the RoleYou will work in a team of scientists and engineers to develop analogue and digital hardware with embedded software for innovative sensors to measure dust, solids, and flow. You will work on all aspects of the electronics design process including requirement analysis, circuit ideation, schematics, layout and prototype production through to testing and handover of the product to production. You will design hardware that meets customer and approval-relevant requirements on metrological circuits. Your designs will take explosion protection (EX) and functional safety (SIL) into account. Your deep understanding of analogue and digital components helps us to develop energy and cost-efficient systems, while reducing the carbon footprint of our devices. You will work closely with the firmware development team to develop and test new hardware and firmware ideas. A basic understanding of embedded software design is essential. You will coordinate activities such as EMC compliance tests and standard-compliant design for UKCA/CE labelling. You will maintain existing products throughout their life cycle, revise circuit diagrams, layouts and components, maintain BOMs and production documentation and assist with re-certification. When necessary, you will transfer legacy designs to Altium 365.You will create and maintain technical documentation in the form of design, test and functional documents, which can be used as a basis for the creation of manuals and the approval of the devices.Your SkillsEssential SkillsDegree in Electronics/Electronic Engineering or equivalent industrial experience.Expertise in analogue and digital hardware design, including:Schematic design and PCB layout using Altium 365.Innovation in sensor technologies, analogue sensor design, circuit development, signal-to-noise ratio improvement, and interference suppression.Hardware testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis experience.Experience of designing to regulatory and industry standards and compliance testing (LVD, EMC),Understanding of embedded software considerations in hardware development.Hardware design in regulated environments, e.g. Ex, SIL, automotive, and medical applications.Proficiency in PCB redesign, re-certification, and modernising legacy products.Hands-on experience with design tools like Altium 365 and SPICE Simulation.Desirable SkillsHardware design for explosive (Ex) environments and functional safety (SIL)Bare-metal programming expertise in C/C++ for 8/16/32-bit processors (Renesas, Microchip, STM32).Salary & BenefitsWe recognise that our people are our greatest asset and are committed to offering a competitive reward package. In addition to a competitive salary based on your skills and experience, we offer:Competitive salary.Company pension scheme.Generous annual leave entitlement plus public holidays.A supportive and collaborative working environment.Opportunities to work on innovative technologies with international engineering teams.Working EnvironmentWe work in a collaborative environment with ENVEA development teams in France, US, Finland, Germany and the UK.
