Job Description:

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated engineer to lead the design and development of advanced electronic systems for vehicle platforms, with a strong emphasis on aerospace and defence-grade reliability, safety, and performance. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge embedded and communication systems that support next-generation mobility solutions, including powertrain controls, sensor networks, and mission-critical vehicle electronics.

Location: Multiple Sites – South East England (Flexible Base Location)

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Take technical ownership of electronic systems design, including high-voltage powertrain control units, microcontroller-based sensor interfaces, and secure vehicle communication networks (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Lead the design and implementation of PCB layouts, schematic capture, and component selection, ensuring compliance with aerospace/defence-grade reliability and signal integrity standards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including hardware engineers, embedded software developers, systems engineers, and program managers—to define and develop robust, scalable system architectures.
  • Conduct detailed feasibility studies, risk assessments, and trade-off analyses to ensure all designs meet technical, environmental, and functional safety requirements.
  • Drive and participate in design reviews, with a focus on high-voltage safety, EMC/EMI compliance, and functional robustness.
  • Perform hands-on board-level testing, including bench validation, debugging, and EMC pre-compliance testing to support design verification and compliance efforts.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, such as schematics, design specifications, test plans, and technical validation reports, aligned with aerospace/defence industry standards.
  • Stay informed of emerging embedded systems technologies, microcontroller advancements, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 26262, MIL-STD, SPICE) to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Who are we looking for?

You are...

  • Passionate about engineering
  • result-oriented
  • proactive

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and delivering electronic systems, ideally within the automotive, aerospace, or defence sectors.
  • Hands-on expertise in electronic CAD tools and simulation platforms (e.g., Altium, Cadence, SPICE).
  • A proactive, analytical mindset with a strong track record of troubleshooting complex systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to engineering problem-solving.
  • Experience with relevant industry standards such as ISO 26262, DO-254, or MIL-STD is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with functional safety and systems engineering principles is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience guiding or mentoring technical teams.
