Job description

About the Role

As an Electro Mechanical Service Technician, you will be part of our Aftermarket Field Service team, supporting the service, repair and commissioning of NOV Wireline equipment. Based primarily at our Kintore facility, you will also travel to NOV and customer locations globally, including offshore environments.

Job Description

As an Electro Mechanical Service Technician, you will be part of our Aftermarket Field Service team, supporting the service, repair and commissioning of NOV Wireline equipment. Based primarily at our Kintore facility, you will also travel to NOV and customer locations globally, including offshore environments.

You will bring a strong electrical foundation while applying and developing your mechanical capability. Working across equipment that combines electrical and mechanical systems, you will diagnose faults, complete repairs and find practical solutions that help keep our customers' equipment operational.

About The Team

You will join a specialist Field Service team within our wider service organisation. While the role offers independence, particularly during field assignments, you will have access to experienced colleagues and wider technical and manufacturing support when required.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a hands‑on role where no two assignments are exactly the same. You may be troubleshooting equipment at our facility, supporting commissioning activities or responding to a breakdown at a customer location.

In the field, you will work directly with customers, understand their requirements and take ownership of finding effective solutions. This may involve diagnosing complex faults, identifying practical alternatives and coordinating the resources required to return equipment to operation safely and efficiently.

Why Join NOV?

This opportunity gives you the chance to broaden your expertise beyond a purely electrical role and develop your electro‑mechanical capability while gaining exposure to specialist Wireline equipment.

You will have opportunities to work across different technical environments, gain international and offshore field exposure and build your customer‑facing experience while continuing to develop your technical knowledge and skills.

What We Offer

You will be part of a global organisation where technical expertise, safety, quality and practical problem‑solving are central to how we work. NOV provides opportunities for role‑specific learning and development, including relevant technical training where required.

Diversity & Inclusion

At NOV, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We value diversity in all its forms and believe that different perspectives drive innovation and success. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Responsibilities
  • Service, troubleshoot, repair and commission NOV Wireline equipment at NOV and customer locations.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical equipment faults, identify defective components and implement effective repair solutions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, specifications and technical instructions to support accurate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Respond proactively to equipment breakdowns, identifying practical solutions to help restore equipment to safe and effective operation.
  • Communicate directly and professionally with customers, understanding their requirements and providing clear updates during field service activities.
  • Inspect equipment to identify defects, faults and areas of non‑conformance in line with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Complete accurate service reports, electrical surveys and other technical documentation following inspections, repairs and field assignments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality and on‑time delivery initiatives across service and repair activities.
  • Work safely and in accordance with NOV health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Travel to customer and NOV locations internationally, including offshore environments, as business requirements dictate.
Essential Qualifications
  • HNC in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a relevant equivalent technical qualification.
  • Relevant hands‑on technical experience within electrical, electronics, electro‑mechanical or industrial maintenance environments.
  • Strong electrical knowledge and practical experience, combined with the willingness and capability to troubleshoot and undertake mechanical work.
  • Demonstrated fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability on machinery or technical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Confidence working directly with customers and communicating effectively in field service situations.
  • Ability to work independently while recognising when wider technical support is required.
  • Computer literacy and confidence completing technical reports and documentation using Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally and undertake offshore assignments.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required CompEx certification if not already certified.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current CompEx certification.
  • Previous hands‑on experience servicing, maintaining or repairing Wireline or similar electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • HND in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Current OPITO BOSIET offshore training.
  • Experience within an assembly or manufacturing environment.
  • PLC programming knowledge or experience.
