Job summary

NOV Wireline Flowline engineering team is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to design electrical and electromechanical systems for well intervention equipment used worldwide. You will work across the full product lifecycle, from concept through manufacturing, testing and product support.

You will produce schematics in EPLAN, perform electrical calculations, and contribute to safe, reliable, and compliant designs within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience designing electrical/electromechanical systems.
  • Experience producing electrical schematics using EPLAN or similar ECAD.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings & standards (IEC/BS).
  • Experience with hazardous-area applications and control panels.

  • Design electrical control systems and electromechanical solutions for wireline equipment.
  • Produce electrical schematics using EPLAN and design packages.
  • Perform electrical calculations and select components for power distribution.
  • Design ATEX & IECEx control panels.
  • Develop electrical assemblies and layouts with 3D CAD collaboration.
  • Support product lifecycle from concept to testing and support.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure feasible, manufacturable designs.
  • Assist with CE/UKCA compliance documentation and change management.

About the Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll become part of NOV's Wireline Flowline engineering team, designing electrical and electromechanical systems for equipment used in well intervention operations worldwide. You'll work across the full product lifecycle—from concept development and detailed design through manufacturing, testing, validation and ongoing product support—helping turn innovative ideas into reliable, high-performance products.

This is a hands‑on engineering role where you'll collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software and manufacturing teams. You'll regularly engage with equipment on the shop floor, ensuring designs are practical, manufacturable and deliver the performance our customers expect.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical control systems and electromechanical solutions for wireline intervention equipment.
  • Produce electrical schematics using E‑PLAN, engineering documentation and design packages.
  • Perform electrical calculations and select appropriate components for control and power distribution/generation systems.
  • Design ATEX & IECEx control panel.
  • Develop electrical assemblies and panel layouts while collaborating closely with mechanical engineers using 3D CAD tools.
  • Support projects throughout the complete product lifecycle, including concept design, detailed engineering, manufacturing, testing, validation and product support.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and workshop teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and fit for purpose.
  • Participate in prototype development, troubleshooting, design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, technical reports and engineering change documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Support product compliance activities, including CE/UKCA requirements and hazardous‑area applications where applicable.
  • Contribute to improving product safety, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability and overall engineering quality.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
  • Professional experience designing electrical or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience producing electrical schematics using EPLAN or another professional ECAD package.
  • Experience working with electrical control systems, industrial equipment, machinery or automation systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to apply suitable IEC and BS standards into design work.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Willingness to spend time in a manufacturing or workshop environment to understand how designs translate into finished products.
Technical Skills
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of electrical components, wiring, instrumentation and control systems.
  • Structured approach to engineering problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of engineering documentation and engineering change processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

  • EPLAN.
  • Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software.
  • Electrical control panel design and machine control systems.
  • PLC‑based control systems, HMI systems or industrial automation.
  • Hazardous‑area equipment, including ATEX, IECEx, NORSOK.
  • CE/UKCA conformity and machinery directives.
  • PLM/PDM systems and engineering change management.
  • Prototype development, product testing, validation or commissioning.
  • Manufacturing or workshop‑based engineering environments.
  • Experience gained within automotive, industrial automation, machinery, aerospace, marine, rail, renewable energy, oil & gas or other complex engineered products.
