Job summary

Adept Resourcing is seeking an electrically biased Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer in Sheffield, days only, to lead maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of facilities and equipment.

You will develop preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex systems, ensure safety standards, and manage parts inventory while supporting Lean initiatives for uptime and cost reduction.

Qualifications

• Engineering apprenticeship and ONC/HNC in electrical/mechanical engineering.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment with mechanical and electrical maintenance.
• Knowledge of 17th or 18th edition wiring regulations.
• Experience with preventive and reactive maintenance.
• Ability to develop and review SOPs.
• Experience performing risk assessments and using Safe Systems of Work (SSWs).
• Open to learning and adapting in a lean environment.
• Excellent stakeholder communication and problem-solving skills.
• Desirable: Lean or Six Sigma qualification.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Ensure safety compliance with standards and regulations.
• Maintain inventories and procurement for maintenance as needed.
• Monitor equipment performance using KPIs like MTTR and MTBF.
• Collaborate with production, safety, and engineering teams.
• Manage maintenance budgets and prepare reports for management.
• Drive continuous improvement to increase uptime and cut costs.
• Oversee facilities maintenance including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and utilities.
• Record all work undertaken and analyse trends for stock control.
• Carry out general repairs and oversee routine property maintenance.
• Support Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives.

We are recruiting for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to oversee the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing client's facilities and equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery, minimise downtime, and uphold high operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and provide timely repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and equipment; manage procurement as needed.
• Monitor and improve equipment performance using KPIs such as MTTR (Mean time to repair) and MTBF(Mean time between failures)
• Collaborate with production, safety, and engineering teams to support operational goals.
• Manage maintenance budgets and prepare reports for management review.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime and reduce costs.
• Oversee facilities maintenance including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and utilities (as applicable).
• Responsible for the recording of all work undertaken including analysis of trends key parts stock
• To carry out or organise general repairs/oversee routine property plant maintenance
• Facilitate / support Lean Manufacturing and operational Excellence implementation

Required skills:

• Recognised engineering apprenticeship and ONC / HNC (or equivalent) in electrical/mechanical engineering
• Demonstrable proven experience in a manufacturing environment in both mechanical and electrical maintenance
• 17th or 18th edition wiring regulations
• Experience doing both total preventative and reactive maintenance
• Competence to review existing SOP'S and develop new ones.
• Experienced in carrying out Risk Assessments and utilising SSW's.
• Willingness and capability to learn develop and adapt.
• Excellent customer service skills, ensuring positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
• A Team player with good inter-personnel skills
• Lean or 6 sigma qualification (desirable)
