Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking an Electrical Technician for a mobile role across multiple pumping sites in the Home Counties South area. The role covers inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing, installation, modification or repair of electrical and mechanical plant with supervision.

You will travel with a base at Camberley STW or Esher STW, working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with overtime opportunities after training.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical/mechanical systems or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred but training can be given.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Ensure health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues and visitors by following regulations and guidelines.
  • Respond to alarms, fault find, fix or escalate, and perform reactive maintenance of plant equipment across sites.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join our team in the Camberley pumping team. This is a mobile role where the successful candidate will travel across multiple pumping station sites in the Home Counties South area. As the successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe efficient timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician.
  • Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors by always displaying the correct behaviours, complying with the Health and Safety at work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Working across multiple sites, you will liaise with the Technical Support Manager to respond to alarms, fault find to identify issues, fix these or elevate, and carry out reactive maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge along with coaching, training and developing staff under your supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.

Base Location: Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to travel across multiple pumping stations in the Home Counties South area. Contractually you would be based at Camberley STW (GU15 3YL) or Esher STW (KT10 8AU).

Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36pm, plus overtime opportunities upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:

  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical / mechanical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18 th Edition preferred but training can be given
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalating if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
