The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As an Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and expertise to the Electrical Services Group, ensuring the successful operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Culham site's power supply infrastructure and low-voltage control systems in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice.

You will lead small to medium work packages related to complex HV/LV electrical equipment, including minor installation or modification tasks, and technical studies, while preparing the necessary documentation.

In addition, you will carry out fault-finding activities on electrical systems, ensuring that proposed solutions are technically sound, and you will be expected to have the competency required to supervise work on these systems.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Lead specific work for the Electrical Services Group, ensuring all associated documentation complies with current legislation and codes of practice, and is delivered safely and effectively. Take full ownership of relevant work packages to ensure technical criteria are met, and work is conducted in a safe, cost-effective manner.
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams, including electrical staff, agency-supplied workers (ASWs), and external contractors, to support UKAEA operations, ensuring effective coordination and oversight.
  • Oversee the design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of assigned electrical systems, while preparing engineering procedures, risk assessments, method statements, and local rules as needed.
  • Provide assurance through calculations, analysis, and review of existing electrical switchgear and cabling, and manage documentation for review and approval, ensuring budgetary control within the Group’s constraints.
  • Support Project Engineers with work packages within and beyond the Group, act as the Owner of specific plant/equipment, and potentially coordinate the training and mentoring of electrician apprentices.
