Griffon Marine Solutions is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team.
The successful candidate will support the design, development, integration and delivery of electrical systems for a diverse range of marine and maritime projects including naval vessels, commercial craft, specialist workboats, hovercraft and vessel modernisation programmes.
The role offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from concept design through detailed design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and sea trials. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to technically challenging projects for defence, government and commercial customers worldwide.
Responsibilities
Electrical System Design
- Design and develop low-voltage marine electrical systems.
- Produce systems-level electrical schematics, and single line diagrams.
- Develop vessel load schedules using equipment datasheets and power requirements.
- Support power distribution system design for AC and DC systems.
- Prepare electrical engineering calculations including cable sizing, fault level assessments, protection coordination and voltage drop calculations.
- Support integration of vessel communication, navigation, propulsion and mission systems.
- Produce and maintain engineering documentation using EPDM and associated design tools.
- Prepare technical specifications, interface documentation and design reports.
- Create installation, commissioning and test documentation.
- Support document reviews and configuration control activities.
Compliance and Assurance
- Ensure designs comply with Lloyd's Register or other applicable Classification Society requirements.
- Support Class approval submissions and technical queries.
- Interpret and apply relevant marine, defence and electrical standards.
- Participate in internal and external design reviews.
System Integration
- Support electrical integration activities during vessel construction and refit projects.
- Liaise with mechanical, systems and production engineers to resolve integration challenges.
- Support equipment selection and technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
- Participate in customer and supplier technical meetings.
Commissioning and Trials
- Support commissioning, harbour acceptance testing and sea trials.
- Assist with fault finding and root cause analysis activities.
- Verify system performance against project requirements.
- Support production and installation teams during project delivery.
- Contribute to the development of engineering standards, templates and best practice.
- Support lessons learned activities across engineering projects.
- Assist with obsolescence management and system lifecycle considerations
Experience/Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in electrical design engineering within marine, defence, offshore, industrial or comparable sectors.
- Experience producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and single line diagrams.
- Understanding of low-voltage power distribution systems.
- Knowledge of electrical design calculations and engineering principles.
- Experience producing technical documentation and reports.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple activities and priorities simultaneously
- Experience working within the marine, naval or shipbuilding sectors.
- Knowledge of Lloyd's Register Rules and Regulations or other classification Societies.
- Understanding of marine automation and control systems.Strong AutoCAD experience.
- Experience with SOLIDWORKS
- Experience supporting vessel commissioning and sea trials.
- Knowledge of EMC compliance requirements
- Understanding of battery energy storage systems and hybrid propulsion technologies
- .Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards professional registration.
