Job summary

SeaKing Electrical is seeking an Electrical Project/Design Engineer for marine engineering and defence applications. You will manage electrical projects from concept to delivery, producing detailed designs and MOD-compliant documentation for vessels and defence programs.

Responsibilities include supporting commissioning, fault finding, and system integration, plus site attendance at shipyards and customer facilities. Travel across the UK and internationally may be required.

Qualifications

  • Manage Electrical Engineering projects from design through delivery.
  • Produce and review electrical system designs for marine/defence.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, single line diagrams, cable schedules and specs.
  • Prepare MOD-compliant documentation and support design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects on time within budget and standards.
  • Support commissioning, testing, fault finding and integration.
  • Attend vessels, shipyards, and customer facilities as required.
  • Provide technical guidance during project execution.

What do you need to deliver – (Core responsibilities)

Responsibilities

Measures

Project delivery

Delivery of work scopes on time

  • All work delivered within agreed time limits

Delivery of work scopes to agreed standards (i.e. Lloyds, DNV etc…)

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, standards, and industry regulations.
  • Apply marine, naval, and electrical engineering standards throughout design execution

Delivery of work to maximise commercial opportunities

  • All projects are to be delivered within agreed budgets.
  • Identification of any additional works and to be passed to Line Manager for discussion and potential cost increases

Proactive approach to QHSE

  • Demonstrates compliance with company QHSE procedures and actively supports continual improvement initiatives.

Commitment to continuous improvement

  • Evidence of personal performance improvement e.g. time to complete tasks, quality improvement
  • Identifying performance issues
  • Offering ideas for performance improvement to Line Manager

Operations

Project Engineering

  • Manage Electrical Engineering projects from design (based upon information provided) through to delivery.
  • Prepare project plans, schedules, progress reports, and technical deliverables.
  • Support commissioning, testing, fault finding, and system integration activities.

Electrical Design & Technical Documentation

  • Produce and review electrical system designs for marine and defence applications.
  • Generate design documentation in accordance with MOD requirements and company procedures.
  • Create and maintain:
    • Electrical schematics
    • Single line diagrams
    • Cable schedules
    • Equipment specifications
    • Interface documentation
    • Test procedures
    • Technical reports
  • Support design reviews and engineering change processes.

Defence & MOD Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation to MOD standards.
  • Support the development of defence-related technical publications and engineering reports.
  • Contribute to configuration management activities and design assurance processes.
  • Ensure documentation complies with applicable defence writing and documentation standards.

Site & Customer Support

  • Attend Vessels, Shipyards, Naval establishments, and customer facilities as required.
  • Support installation, commissioning, acceptance trials, and customer demonstrations.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support during project execution.

Strategic awareness

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the business unit’s VP
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, emerging technologies and engineering best practice.

Commercial awareness

  • Identify and communicate potential contractual, commercial and programme risks at an early stage.

People

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and solution focused. Demonstrates initiative and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and overseas when required.
  • Minimum of HNC/HND qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering; will consider Candidates with similar qualifications, in the same field, if they can provide evidence of their experience

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working on Royal Navy or MOD programmes.
  • Knowledge of marine electrical installation and commissioning activities.
  • Experience with configuration management and design assurance processes.
  • Understanding of systems engineering methodologies.
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution or working towards professional registration (EngTech/IEng).
  • Full UK Drivers Licence
