Job summary

Fortus Recruitment Group is seeking an Area Supervisor – Electrical in Welwyn Garden City. You will oversee daily workflows, mentor field engineers, and ensure all electrical works comply with NICEIC standards and client specifications.

You will report to the Electrical Manager, conduct quality audits, and deliver toolbox talks while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance across contracts.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds 2391 and related inspection/testing certifications are required.
• 18th Edition and IET BS 7671 knowledge essential for compliance.
• NVQ3 in Electrical Installation and AM2 certification are preferred.
• NICEIC QS status or eligibility is required for supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational management and coaching to field operatives.
• Lead technical governance, audits, and toolbox talks across sites.
• Escalate complex issues and ensure works meet client specs and KPIs.
• Deputise for Electrical Manager during absences and support investigations.

Area Supervisor – Electrical

Role: Area Supervisor – Electrical

Location: Welwyn Garden City

Salary: £44,075 – £47,150 per annum

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

As an Electrical Area Supervisor , you will play a pivotal role in driving technical quality, safety compliance, and operational efficiency across the regional electrical division. Reporting directly to the Electrical Manager, you will serve as a technical mentor to field engineers, act as an NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS), and ensure all works align with client specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality metrics. This position balances technical governance with field leadership—overseeing daily workflows, conducting site quality audits, delivering structured technical toolbox talks, and acting as a primary escalation point for clients and complex jobs.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Governance & Quality Assurance

• Act as an NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS) , reviewing test documentation, validating electrical certification, and collaborating with the wider technical team.
• Carry out structured quality audits, post-work inspections, and Health & Safety checks to agreed volume targets.
• Champion internal competency frameworks, auditing engineer skill records and ensuring operatives are strictly deployed within their qualified scope of work.
• Deliver the "Technical Section" during monthly Toolbox Talks, cascading the latest industry regulations, company procedural updates, and findings from completed quality checks.

Operational Leadership & Team Mentorship

• Provide day-to-day operational management, technical guidance, and coaching to field operatives to consistently achieve agreed weekly completion targets.
• Coordinate resources across multiple contracts, resolving logistical delays and on-site bottlenecks promptly.
• Formulate and execute corrective action plans on-site where engineers require hands‑on technical escalation or complex fault diagnosis.
• Assist with the induction, technical onboarding, and continuous training of both new recruits and existing engineers.
• Deputise for the Electrical Manager during planned absences and assist with internal investigations (grievance/disciplinary procedures) when required.

Client Management & Service Delivery

• Act as a senior technical point of contact for clients, attending site visits to investigate complaints, resolve complex technical issues, and ensure contract KPIs are met or exceeded.
• Uphold professional customer service standards across the division, proactively managing client communications and project delivery timelines.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• City & Guilds 2391
• (or 2394/2395) Inspection & Testing.
• 18th Edition
• IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
• NVQ Level 3
• in Electrical Installation (or equivalent recognized apprenticeship).
• AM2 Certificate.
• Proven track record operating as, or eligible to immediately register as, an NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS) .
• Demonstrable supervisory or lead engineer experience managing field‑based operatives.
• Valid UK Driving Licence.
