Job summary

DS Smith is seeking a Subject Matter Expert in Electrical Engineering to join its central engineering function. You will lead electrical engineering activities across DS Smith Paper mills in the UK and Europe, driving reliability, efficiency, and technical standards.

This is a highly specialized role with travel 30–50% and a readiness to support facilities globally. You will apply hands-on expertise to solve complex challenges while mentoring teams and upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Extensive hands-on mechanical engineering in industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Willing to travel 30–50% across DS Smith sites in UK and Europe.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead for electrical engineering across all DS Smith Paper mills.
• Develop and implement best practices, standards, and specifications for mechanical systems.
• Support site teams with troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical problem-solving.
• Train and mentor engineering team members across multiple sites to build capability.
• Collaborate with cross-divisional teams on capital projects and equipment upgrades.
• Evaluate and introduce innovative mechanical solutions to improve safety, reliability, and performance.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, health & safety regulations, and internal policies.
