Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Redcar is seeking an Electrical Quality Area Lead to support NZT project quality management from site set-up to handover. You will provide expert quality guidance, manage audits and non-conformances, and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with the Quality Management System and customer requirements.

You will lead quality assurance activities, review subcontractor documentation, and monitor quality performance across the project, promoting Right First Time

Qualifications

  • HNC in Quality Management or degree in a relevant field.
  • CQI Certificate in Quality Management.
  • AMIQA Associate Member qualification.
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification.
  • ISO 9001 External Auditor qualification – preferred.
  • Proven experience in M&E industry sectors.
  • Understanding of IT systems used in documentation control.
  • Basic understanding of BIM.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Quality Manager and Construction Management Team from site set-up through to handover.
  • Provide expert quality guidance and ensure QMS, customer requirements and procedures compliance.
  • Lead quality assurance activities: audits, inspections, non-conformance and corrective actions.
  • Review subcontractor quality documentation for compliance throughout delivery.
  • Monitor quality performance, identify risks and implement mitigations.
  • Liaise with customers, regulators, third parties and subcontractors on quality matters.
  • Ensure quality requirements are included in Construction Execution Plans and handover docs.
  • Manage quality data, technical queries, concessions, and close-out activities.
  • Promote Right First Time culture via training and best practice.
  • Support governance, site audits and continuous improvement.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Electrical Quality Area Lead to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role Purpose: The role involves providing comprehensive support to the Construction Quality Manager and the Quality,Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) function. This includes managing a package of work and overseeing subcontractors to ensure full compliance with Project requirements, Company policies,standards, and procedures. The aim is to deliver effective and efficient management of resources and activities.

To manage and control all project document flow to ensure accurate registration, storage of drawings and specifications and accurate liaison with site team, design team, subcontractors, customers, external suppliers and work winning staff, as appropriate.

To provide subject matter expertise and coaching on the use of Business Collaborator, CEMAR and allother software required for use with relevant teams and subcontractors

What you'll be doing
  • Support the Project Quality Manager and Construction Management Team in delivering quality requirements from site set-up through to plant handover.
  • Provide expert quality guidance and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System, customer requirements, and project procedures.
  • Lead quality assurance activities, including audits, inspections, non-conformance management, corrective actions, and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Review and approve subcontractor quality documentation, ensuring compliance throughout project delivery.
  • Monitor project quality performance, identify risks and adverse trends, and implement mitigation measures.
  • Liaise with customers, regulators, third parties, and subcontractors on quality matters and project performance.
  • Ensure quality requirements are incorporated into Construction Execution Plans, Quality Plans, and handover documentation.
  • Manage quality data, technical queries, concessions, document control, and close-out activities.
  • Promote Right First Time culture by delivering quality awareness, training, and best practice across the project team.
  • Facilitate governance, compliance monitoring, and site audits to ensure adherence to company and customer standards.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities through effective quality surveillance and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure customer complaints, quality incidents, and escalation processes are managed appropriately and reported to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead continuous improvement and lessons learned activities to enhance future project delivery.
  • Ensure adequate quality resources are in place to support successful construction execution and project objectives.
Who we're looking for
  • HNC in Quality Management or a degree in a relevant
  • CQI Certificate in Quality Management
  • Associate Member of the Institute of Quality Assurance (AMIQA)
  • Internal auditors' qualification to ISO 9001
  • External auditors' qualification to ISO 9001 – preferred
  • Proven experience with M&E Industry sectors
  • Understanding of IT systems used in documentation control.
  • Good experience of document control.
  • Basic understanding of BIM.
  • An ability to understand how the operations of the department relate to others and work collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the business.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
