Role Summary

Strong Group are working with an established electrical contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Project Manager to join their team on a major, long-duration project in Oxford.

This is a permanent, fully site-based position. The successful Project Manager will remain based on the Oxford project rather than travelling between multiple sites.

You will take overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, commercial awareness and delivery of the electrical works from construction through to handover and final account.

The Project Manager will directly manage the Site Manager and work closely with the Site Supervisor, Quantity Surveyor, Technical Team, client, consultants and wider project stakeholders. The role carries responsibility for ensuring the project is delivered safely, on programme, to the required quality and with appropriate commercial control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the electrical project.
  • Manage and provide direction to the Site Manager and wider project delivery team.
  • Ensure site activities remain aligned with the agreed programme and project priorities.
  • Monitor progress, blockers, risks, access issues, material constraints and design matters.
  • Provide timely decisions and direction to the site team and elevate significant matters where required.
  • Ensure labour, subcontractors, plant, materials and logistics are coordinated effectively.
  • Review labour and productivity requirements against programme.
  • Prepare and maintain a 4-6 week lookahead programme.
  • Review the Site Manager’s two-week lookahead and ensure labour, materials, access, design information and work fronts are properly coordinated.
  • Identify programme slippage and agree recovery actions.
  • Ensure materials and plant are procured in sufficient time to avoid delays.
Technical & Design Coordination
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Identify technical or design issues that may affect programme or installation.
  • Ensure RFIs and technical submittals are raised, tracked and progressed through to resolution.
  • Coordinate design clarifications with the Technical Team, client, consultants and main contractor.
  • Ensure benchmark requirements and approvals are identified early enough to prevent programme delays.
  • Ensure the site team is working from the latest approved drawings and information.
  • Review red-line information and ensure accurate as-built records are maintained for handover.
Commercial Responsibilities

This is not simply a site-management role. The successful candidate will be expected to understand the commercial impact of project decisions and work closely with the Quantity Surveyor.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with the Quantity Surveyor on project financial performance.
  • Providing accurate labour, progress, programme, procurement and site information.
  • Identifying variations, client instructions and cost-impacting changes promptly.
  • Ensuring appropriate records are maintained to support commercial recovery.
  • Reviewing cost-to-complete and project forecasts with the QS.
  • Monitoring committed costs and anticipated project margin.
  • Considering the cost impact of labour, procurement, plant, subcontractors and programme recovery decisions.
  • Supporting valuation, final account and variation substantiation.
  • Protecting the overall financial viability and profitability of the project.
Project Reporting & Client Liaison
  • Maintain effective communication with the client, main contractor, consultants and senior management.
  • Provide regular progress and project updates.
  • Ensure delays, risks, blockers, changes and instructions are properly recorded and communicated.
  • Lead and attend project coordination meetings where required.
  • Ensure actions are clearly allocated, monitored and closed out.
  • Review weekly project reporting prepared by the Site Manager.
  • Complete monthly project reviews covering programme, commercial position, design, procurement, H&S, quality, risks and key actions.
  • Maintain accurate project records and correspondence.
Health & Safety
  • Maintain management oversight of health and safety requirements across the project.
  • Ensure approved RAMS and company procedures are being followed.
  • Review significant H&S issues and corrective actions raised by the site team.
  • Review subcontractor compliance.
  • Prepare, review and maintain project risk assessments, method statements and relevant H&S documentation where required.
  • Ensure corrective actions are progressed and closed out.
Quality & Handover
  • Oversee project QA requirements, inspections and associated records.
  • Manage snagging and close-out activities.
  • Ensure commissioning records are correctly maintained.
  • Coordinate O&M information and H&S file documentation.
  • Ensure accurate red-line and as-built drawings are produced.
  • Coordinate project handover in line with client requirements.
  • Support completion and final account activities.
Team Structure

The Project Manager will be based on the Oxford project and will work alongside an established site delivery team consisting of:
