Job summary

New City College Hackney Campus is seeking a hands-on Technician for the Construction department to support electrical and plumbing teaching by preparing practical workshops, maintaining tools, and promoting a safe, engaging learning environment.

You will work on workshop setup, stock management, and assist staff and students during practical sessions, contributing to high‑quality skills training and links with local employers.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification or experience in the electrical and plumbing trade.
• Practical knowledge of traditional and modern techniques.
• Experience in construction or multi-skills is beneficial.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of health and safety in workshop environments.
• Friendly communicator able to support learners.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons and assessments.
• Set up and demonstrate tools, machinery, and equipment safely.
• Maintain and repair tools and machinery, keeping accurate servicing records.
• Ensure resources are stored and organised in line with college policies.
• Oversee and support students during practical sessions to maintain safe working practices.
• Manage stock levels, order supplies, and recycle materials where appropriate.
• Provide technical support to staff and respond to students’ practical needs.
• Assist in creating a high-quality, professional workshop environment.
