Main Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Stations Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Team, you will contribute towards delivering the day to day maintenance and operational requirements to maximize the safe, reliable and commercial performance of the power station.
Utilising your background knowledge and experience in the field of Electrical Engineering, specifically in modern heavy industry, your duties and responsibilities will include routine plant preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and breakdown recovery. You are required to effectively collaborate with Engineering & Outage (E&O) teams, supporting plant shutdowns and recommissioning. The discipline E&O team will provide direction and support as appropriate.
This post offers the opportunity to work flexibly in an O&M site team environment and experience a wide range of maintenance and operations responsibilities to deliver the continuous improvement agenda and to maximise the flexibility and potential of the Station within the Gas Generation portfolio. You will be expected to perform both maintenance and operational duties as required. This will require working additional hours and may require the need to work as part of a rotational or stagger shift pattern as the business needs change.
Key Responsibilities
- Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Meet both legislative and corporate requirements & standards ensuring effective safety and operational practices are adopted
- Support the wider business targets, KPI’s and initiatives relating to health, safety, wellbeing and environment.
- Providing technical & maintenance support for normal plant operations; breakdown & defects management.
- Prioritising workload and available resources.
- Implementing effective maintenance strategies; carrying out routine maintenance, first line fault diagnosis and problem solving to ensure that the plant is maintained to appropriate standards and in accordance with RWE procedures.
- Specify and procure spare parts in accordance with company policies, procedures and budget requirements.
- Craftsperson & contractor management - Planning, organising, executing and where necessary supervising maintenance activities on the station.
- Management of outage work packages to ensure safe completion to the required quality and timescale
- Flexible Working
- Provide discipline support for plant breakdown and outage works inclusive of appropriate out of hours and weekend working to meet the needs of the business, whilst actively managing your own working schedule.
- Providing support for both the Maintenance and Operations teams, working collaboratively across both teams when required.
- Implementing RWE & OEM plant maintenance strategies.
- Ensuring all of the preventative maintenance work is carried out within the required timescales.
- Identification and monitoring of plant issues that could affect plant availability and reliability. Suggesting & promoting modifications and continuous improvements.
- Engaging with Contract staff, Engineering and Outage and specialist support teams.
- Contract Management Responsibilities - Involvement in the execution of maintenance contracts and on-site work
- Plant maintenance systems optimisation. Developing the asset/plant history and status.
- Updating and maintaining engineering discipline input into RWE Staythorpes Computerised Maintenance Management System (SAP). Developing and maintaining maintenance documentation, records and procedures.
Knowledge & Skills
- Hold an Engineering qualification in your discipline to the minimum level of HNC or ONC with relevant experience and working towards achieving an HNC.
- Experienced in a wide range of discipline maintenance activities in heavy, process or power industry. Key plant areas of knowledge include:
- Motors
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- UPS systems
- Battery Systems
- Generators
- Have strong interpersonal skills and be competent in the use of applicable business IT systems such as Microsoft Office and have previous experience of a Computerised Maintenance Management System.
- Be a self-motivated, flexible individual able to work with the minimum of supervision, whilst being capable of providing support to the team.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives.
- Values and behaviours – developing the business culture through engagement and encouragement with all staff within their teams and wider portfolio. Flexible mind set willing to support the business working across the station & wider portfolio; able to flex tasks, working hours and pattern to suit business needs. Ability and flexibility to retrain and to take on new skill sets.

- An expected starting salary from approximately £50,000 to £58,000 depending on experience and up to 10% annual bonus
