Why This Role Matters

Our Electrical Power & Cooling Engineers are vital in maintaining BT’s networks 24/7. They utilize their expertise in Low and High Voltage systems, generators, emergency lighting, cooling, alarms, and UPS to ensure continuous operation across various environments, including exchange buildings, radio sites, rooftops, and outdoors. They support electrical power systems and cooling equipment to keep the UK's internet running, meeting strict SLAs, with responsibilities including ownership of patches, coaching colleagues, and supporting out-of-hours callouts.

A comprehensive technical training pathway will be provided, covering maintenance activities through face-to-face, virtual, internal, and external methods, possibly involving overnight stays and travel.

The role requires participation in an out-of-hours callout framework (typically 1 in 4), supporting 24x7 service, with specifics agreed upon after training.

A full UK manual driver's license is mandatory.

Key Purpose of the Role

As part of Network Engineering, leading by example—sharing knowledge, supporting new team members, and embodying BT values—is essential. Responsibilities include:

  • Proactively reporting HSE/Compliance/Design issues.
  • Owning designated patches and sites to meet objectives.
  • Sharing best practices and supporting colleagues.
  • Managing critical network repair, provision, and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinating work to align with team priorities.
  • Conducting risk assessments for health and safety.
  • Raising issues/risks to senior staff.
  • Enhancing personal skills and supporting team development.
  • Identifying process improvement opportunities.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance, including health surveillance, and maintaining professional appearance.
What You'll Bring

Must meet physical requirements such as bending, stretching, kneeling, crouching, climbing, working at various heights, lifting heavy objects, and recognizing wiring colors.

Mandatory experience/qualifications:
  • Electrical competency City & Guilds 2360 parts 1+2 or equivalent NVQ or industry qualification
  • BTEC Electrical Engineering Level 3/HNC/HND/MOET Level 3/ET Level 3 or equivalent
  • Full UK manual Driving Licence
Preferred experience/qualifications:
  • 18th Edition Regulations or current electrical codes
  • Inspection, Testing, and Verification (C&G 2392-10)
  • Experience with UPS systems
  • F-GAS category 1 certification
  • Experience repairing and maintaining Air Conditioning Split systems
  • Experience with DC power systems
  • Coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience

Note: Qualifications evolve over time; experienced hires will be assessed to identify training needs. Trainee/apprentice hires must achieve full qualification in these areas during training.
